Toledo Screw: 57 Years of Excellence

On April 1, 1969, William (Bill) Bjork purchased Toledo Screw Machine Products with Jack Schmittel as the plant manager in the beginning. At that time, the shop was in an oversized garage. Under the direction of Bill Bjork and his plant manager Jack Schmittel, the company quickly outgrew these modest beginnings, and we moved to our present location in 1971, giving us the room to modernize and expand.

In 1986, Alan (Al) Bjork, Bill’s son, and Rick Schmittel, Jack’s son, joined Toledo Screw. Today this family-owned business continues under the leadership of Al with Rick as plant manager. Both have been instrumental in guiding the company into a highly productive era that leverages the enormous productivity of Swiss machines into faster deliveries, greater efficiencies and reliable precision for its diverse industrial customer base.

Lean, Clean, and Green

Running a lean, more ‘sustainable’ facility is not only the right thing to do, but good for business. We were one of the first small manufacturers in the area to recognize the benefits of generating our own electric power with installation of solar panels. Additionally, we have the ability to collect and then convert dirty solvent into energy that helps provide heating to our plant in the colder months. Finally, we’ve made the investment in a highly efficient coolant separation and cleaning system with an automatic chip spinner that allows us to re-use our machining coolant and recycle all of our metal scrap, thus reducing our costs and helping eliminate waste. We do not dispose of any liquid waste from our machining operations; we recycle or reuse these waste fluids right on site.
